Notes from Sterling:

## About Jubilee

- Use of JSON to represent science Jubilee objects
- Use of Opentrons specifications and [labware library](https://labware.opentrons.com/) (what about protocol library? [Protocol Library - Opentrons](https://opentrons.com/intro-to-protocol-library/))
- Black tape beneath deck to enhance contrast through wellplates
- Use of water and paint instead of food coloring (food dye too transparent)
- Can enhance precision through calibration similar to Opentrons, which is done on a per module basis right now. Definitely some potential to use AprilTags here so regular calibration isn’t needed
- What about an actual Rob Ross demo? (i.e., “smearing” the tip as you’re dispensing)
- Strong suggestion to move to ethernet (even if it’s just ethernet directly to a router) instead of the WiFi version of the Duet hardware
- Raspberry Pi version is simply a replacement for the usual computer you’d use, just with limitation of computational power. For me, this probably means I will add a Raspberry Pi (with the ribbon connector that’s required), and then create a science\_jubilee MQTT communication API/interface (xref: [Using MQTT to interface with hardware, cameras etc, streamlit UI - Random - Streamlit](https://discuss.streamlit.io/t/using-mqtt-to-interface-with-hardware-cameras-etc-streamlit-ui/11431)) of some kind such that I can pip install science\_jubilee on a local machine and install the control API on the RPi 4B. This is very similar to what I’m doing with [Pioreactor](https://forum.pioreactor.com/t/use-with-a-different-mqtt-broker/228), but I’ll be building the MQTT schema from scratch. In this case, it’s probably worth getting an ethernet version of the Duet (at the very least to have available during prototyping).

Sterling, thanks for the discussion today about solid handling and roadblocks for automated exploration or chemical reaction space. It would be interesting to explore accelerated materials preparation using automated microwave synthesis.

Hi Sterling, I enjoyed the workshop!
I would love to see the chemical synthesis community adapt the tools developed by the neighbouring fields or at least get inspired and start challenging traditional ways of thinking.
There are already great examples of liquid transfer using jubilee. I would love to explore the possibility of reaction work-up and purification, and full DMTA cycle.

Awesome! What kind of functionality in addition to liquid handling do you think you’d need?

Hey everyone! Just got back to Buenos Aires, thanks for setting up this forum.

I learnt a lot from everyone during the workshop; thank you all for making it a great experience. 🙂

I will bring this up at an upcoming talk about SJ (there is no date yet) with (at least) Maria and Blair. Anyone interested in joining can raise their hands.

Looking forward to more interactions, meetups, and automation fun. 🤖

Best,
Nico

I’m just replying because I think this is what Sterling asked us to do? I’m a bad forum user 😃

For instance, in many cases, a needle tool that draws from or injects into a septum-sealed vessel is needed. This applies to HPLC vials and vessels for a lot of air-sensitive chemistry.

And possibly the ability to do simple filtrations or liquid-liquid extraction. The side camera tool is great for introducing CV to these reaction work-up steps.

Hi,
This is my first time attending this conference, and I’m truly impressed by the innovative concepts being presented for accelerating materials discovery and applications.

At my institution, we are currently in the process of establishing **Italy** ’s first **Materials and Devices Acceleration Platform** (_ **IT-MADAM** _), which will be operational within a year. This platform will not only synthesize and deposit materials to **create energy devices** (e.g. _PV perovskite based solar cells_) with **HT** (_around 100 devices per day_) but will also **fully characterize** them through inline acquisition of **optical, electronic, and functional features**.

The quality of the discussions at this conference has been outstanding.

**My main goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state of the art in various aspects of Self-Driving Labs (SDLs)**.
I hope to progressively deepen my knowledge in order to better prepare for the challenges we will face, in the near future, with our IT-MADAM platform.
I aim to learn the terminology and techniques discussed here so that we can contribute meaningfully to this vibrant community.
Many thanks to all of you
