Hi everyone,
I’m currently working on a project focused on developing a database for inventory tracking and would love to hear from the community about how you’re approaching this challenge, especially when considering autonomous systems.
Specifically, I’m interested in any strategies, tools, or best practices you’ve found effective in tracking inventory using autonomous technologies. How are you integrating these systems into your existing workflows, and what challenges have you faced? Are there any particular technologies or frameworks that have worked well for you in automating inventory management?
Looking forward to hearing your insights and suggestions!

Hey interesting post!
For background, I don’t have much of a background in research labs, but will speak specifically about inventory of consumables for autonomous labs, I think this part is critical.
In a traditional research lab, you have humans performing the experiments who are consciously and/or subconsciously continuously monitoring the consumables inventory for running lab experiments. In an autonomous lab, you need an inventory system to trigger alerts when a human needs to be in the loop to replenish inventory, or else it will be a bottleneck and reduce lab uptime.
The states of consumables need to be tracked at all times during autonomous experiments. The equipment needs to be able to read the inventory system to perform a check before doing a step, to ensure that step can actually be done. Equipment should be well integrated with inventory systems to continuously update the inventory states as it is using up consumables.
